My Personal Guide to the Top 10 Attractions in Dubai

Sunrise in Dubai

So you’re thinking about a trip to Dubai. I get it. The place is mesmerizing. But figuring out what to do can be a little much, right? Everyone seems to have a different list of the best attractions in Dubai, and the city just keeps adding more jaw-dropping things to see. Thinking about it from here in Kochi, that dry desert heat is a whole different world from our humidity, so planning is key.

Here’s my take on it. This isn’t some official, definitive guide, just my personal list of the ten spots that I think really give you a feel for what Dubai is all about.

Let’s start with the trio you simply can’t ignore, right in the heart of Downtown. First, the Burj Khalifa. You can’t miss it, it’s literally the centerpiece of the skyline. Going up to the observation deck is a classic tourist moment and the view is, well, insane. But I think the real magic is on the ground, especially when The Dubai Fountain show starts. That whole spectacle of water, light, and music with the Burj lit up behind it… it’s just one of those perfect travel moments.

And it all happens right at the foot of the Dubai Mall. To call this place a ‘mall’ is honestly hilarious. It’s more like a self-contained city. You could spend a whole day just wandering through, finding everything from a world-class aquarium to an Olympic-sized ice rink. My advice? Wear your most comfortable shoes. I swear I get lost for at least 20 minutes every time I go, but that’s part of the experience, I think.

Now, for the things that make you go, “only in Dubai.” The Palm Jumeirah is at the top of that list. A man-made island shaped like a palm tree is a wild concept, but they actually did it. Taking the monorail down its ‘trunk’ gives you a great perspective on just how massive it is. Then there’s the delightful absurdity of Ski Dubai. One minute you’re in a mall escaping the heat, the next you’re putting on a winter jacket to ski on actual snow. It’s bonkers, and you should absolutely do it.

But it’s not all just modern marvels. For me, some of the most memorable attractions in Dubai have more soul. A trip to the Dubai Creek is essential. You have to take a traditional ‘abra’ boat across the water- it costs next to nothing and feels like you’ve been transported back in time. You can explore the Gold and Spice Souks, and the whole area is just buzzing with a history that you can feel.

For a completely different kind of beauty, go to the Dubai Miracle Garden. It’s this oasis of millions upon millions of flowers arranged in these huge, fantastic shapes – think giant floral teddy bears and even a full-size Emirates A380. It’s only open in the cooler months, so you have to time it right, but it’s such a surreal and happy place. Another winter-season favorite is Global Village. It’s a huge open-air park with pavilions from all over the world. It’s a bit chaotic, but the energy is incredible – you can eat, shop, and just soak in the atmosphere.

Finally, there are two places that I think brilliantly capture the city’s spirit. The new Museum of the Future is already iconic. The building itself looks like it landed from another planet, and inside it’s all about exploring what’s next for humanity. And then there’s The Dubai Frame. It’s such a simple, genius idea. A colossal picture frame where you can see the modern, glittering skyline on one side, and the older, historic parts of the city on the other. It sums up Dubai perfectly.

So, that’s my list. But honestly? The best plan is to not have too much of a plan. Just wander, get a little lost, and let the city surprise you.
